Dear
Colleagues:
I
take this opportunity to invite you to attend the National
Bar Association 79th Annual Convention, August 7-14, 2004
in Charlotte, North Carolina.
As
we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the landmark U.S. Supreme
Court decision in Brown v. Board of Education which
ended legal segregation in education, lawyers in par-ticular,
are faced with a unique responsibility and obligation to
utilize this occasion to heighten the consciousness and
commitment of all Americans to the true meaning of Brown
and its aftermath. As lawyers of color, we undoubtedly,
stand on the legacy of Brown. The unanimous decision in
Brown changed America and positioned it to live up to its
true potential of equal opportunity for all. However, we
are not quite there.
As
we celebrate our own 79th year as a source of strength for
those legal advocates who fought the great battles culminating
in Brown, we endeavor to provide you with quality seminars
and other opportunities for impacting social change as well
as your professional development. This year, being a presidential
election year, one showcase seminar will examine voting
from many angles as we strategize to “Make Every Vote Count.”
In addition to over 30 continuing legal education seminars,
we will provide a symposium on “Drug Laws and Policies:
The Need for Reforms and Creative Solutions.” The Civil
Trial Advocacy Symposium will consist of a “star-studded”
faculty who will address “the Jury Trial Process: Voir Dire
to Appellate Process.”
Come
join us in Charlotte. I encourage you to register and make
your hotel arrangements early as we bring this bar year
to a close while “pursuing parity, delivering service.”
Sincerely
Clyde E. Baily, Sr. President.
