| MID-WINTER
CONFERENCE PROVES EDUCATIONAL AND ENJOYABLE |
|
Members
of the National Bar Association gathered together
in St. Kitts for educational seminars, convocation
and fun in the sun. The seminars advised members of
the everyday ethical pitfalls and the rescinding of
affirmative action. The showcase seminar dealt with
the impact of popular culture on Public perception
of the judicial system. The luncheon speaker was an
old friend of the National Bar, former Mayor Marc
Morial, currently the Executive Director of the National
Urban League.

After
attending the seminars and meeting, the members took
time to attend a reception which feature local dancers
and entertainment by New Orleans recording artist
Michael Ward. A day trip to Nevis, St. Kitts' sister
island concluded with a reception at the home of a
local attorney. The four day conference was closed
out with the Convocation at the Zion Moravian Church.
The speaker was Johnny Ford, Mayor of Tuskegee, Alabama.

NATIONAL
BAR ASSOCIATION ARCHIVES TO BE TRANSFERRED TO DRAKE
UNIVERSITY LAW SCHOOL
|
|
|
|
On February 1, 2007 the National Bar Archives, which
have been housed at the Des Moines, Iowa Public Library,
will be transferred to the National Bar Archives Room
at Drake University Law School Library. Drake Law
School constructed a room just for this purpose. The
room will service as a place where the Board of the
Iowa Chapter of the National Bar Association can meet
as well as the Executive Committee and Legal Redress
Committee of the NAACP-Des Moines Branch.
President
Finney will attend the dedication program which will
be held at 4:30 p.m. Also scheduled to attend is William
Morris, Jr. the grandson of one of the co-founders,
James B. Morris and Dr. Lawrence Howard, a son of
Charles Preston Howard.
Elaine
Estes, the retired Director of the Des Moines Public
Library is the person largely responsible for putting
together the original display at the library along
with the donor of most of the archive documents and
artifacts, Dr. Cleota Proctor Wilbekin, who has served
as the historian for the organization. The National
Bar Association is deeply indebted to these two women
who persisted in developing this collection out of
their love for the organization.
The
National Bar Association's national office is still
collecting other artifacts to be placed in the room
at Drake University. If you have any artifacts from
1925 through 1978 please contact the national office.
Meanwhile join us in thanking Drake University, Elaine
Estes and Dr. Cleota Wilbekin for keeping the history
of the National Bar Association alive and available
for all to see.
