PRESIDENT CLYDE BAILEY CONGRATULATES NEW JERSEY GOVERNOR
JAMES E. MCGREEVY
National
Bar Association President Clyde Bailey sends congratulatory
letter to New Jersey Governor James McGreevey for his Executive
Order in support of Environmental Justice. The recently
executed Executive Order calls for the New Jersey governmental
agencies to consider environmental health impacts on underserved
communities of color and low income communities. Moreover,
the Executive Order calls for the New Jersey Department
of Environmental Protection and Transportation to develop
a coordinated strategy for reducing the public's exposure
to fine particulate pollution which purportedly is linked
to the prevalence of childhood asthma, particularly in Black
and Hispanic populations. In his letter to the Governor,
President Bailey indicated that "the National Bar Association
strongly supports this important initiative to eradicate
environmental conditions that disproportionately burdens
the most vulnerable communities in our nation.
The
National Bar Association, founded in 1925, is the nation's
oldest and largest association of attorneys of color, representing
a professional network of over 20,000 lawyers, judges, educators
and law students.
