Houston Lawyer's Association Meet With Top Election Official for Count Every Vote Campaign

Houston, Texas- Members of the Houston Lawyers Association (HLA) & The National Bar Association (NBA), along with Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee and partners from other community organizations met with Harris County Clerk Beverly Kaufman Monday to discuss today’s Election Primary and to ensure that every voter’s vote will count.

“Our office is ready for the anticipated huge vote turnout,” says, County Clerk Beverly Kaufman, “we have over 10,000 voting machines at the voting locations and our staff is prepared to respond to any issue on Super Tuesday.”

“The Houston Chapte of the NAACP has joined fo ces with the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under the Law and Attorneys from the Houston Lawyers Association, to respond to Election Day issues.” Says Mrs. Linda Dunson, President of the Houston Lawyers Association and Senior Staff Attorney with the Houston Chapter of the NAACP. Mrs. Dunson goes on to say, “ We’ve established a vote hotline number, 1 866 OUR –VOTE, and I along with my colleague, J. Goodwille Pierre, National Board Member at Large of the National Bar Association and Past President of HLA, have recruited hundreds of volunteer lawyers to be at the polling sites to deal with issues directly.”

The Houston Lawyers Association (HLA), a professional legal organization that represents over 1300 African American Attorneys and Legal Professionals residing or working in the Harris County and surrounding a eas. HLA, an affiliate chapter of the National Bar Association, was founded in 1955 to address the particula needs of Black lawyers and the legal needs of the Black community in general. HLA seeks to address injustice and educate members and the community by serving as a redress conduit, improving legal services and providing a voice for the community through advocacy, mentoring, professionalism, and coalition building.
