NBA
ENDORSES ABA KENNEDY COMMISSION RESOLUTIONS
MONDAY,
JULY 30, 2004. Since submitting its testimony to the ABA
Justice Kennedy Commission on the Criminal Justice System,
the National Bar Association has been vigilant in following
the developments emerging from this important Commission.
During its upcoming Annual Meeting in Atlanta, the ABA House
of Delegates will act on four Criminal Justice System Resolutions:
Resolutions 121A Regarding Punishment, Incarceration
and Sentencing; Resolution 121B Regarding Racial
Disparity in the Criminal Justice System, Resolution
121C Regarding Clemency, Sentence Reduction, and Restoration
of Rights; and, Resolution 121D Regarding Prison
Conditions and Prisoner Reentry.
In
a letter to Chair of the Rules and Calendar Committee, Don
Bivens, President Bailey requested that the NBA be listed
as a co-sponsor on each of the four Resolutions. According
to Bailey, "These matters are core concerns of the National
Bar Association and the communities we serve."
The
National Bar Association, founded in 1925, is the nation's
oldest and largest association of attorneys of color, representing
a professional network of over 20,000 lawyers, judges, educators
and law students.
