PAST-PRESIDENT, HON. ARNETTE R. HUBBARD FEATURED IN THIS
WEEK'S JET MAGAZINE
WASHINGTON,
DC - NBA President (1981 - 1982) Arnette Hubbard is highlighted
in the Black History section of this week's JET magazine
for being the first female President of the National Bar
Association. On July 31, 1981, Hubbard was installed as
the 39th President of the NBA at that year's Annual Convention
in Detroit, MI.
Hubbard,
a graduate of John Marshall Law School, was an official
monitor of South Africa's first all-race elections in 1994,
and also served as a commissioner of the Chicago Board of
Elections. In addition to her dedicated service at the NBA
in the role of President, Hubbard also served as President
for the Cook County Bar Association, the largest county
bar association in the nation.
The
NBA is the largest and oldest national organization of attorneys
and judges of color in the world. The NBA was founded in
1925 by twelve (12) African American lawyers in Des Moines,
Iowa and today represents over 44,000 lawyers, judges, educators
and law students .
