NBA
PRESIDENT REGINALD M. TURNER, JR.’S TESTIMONY FOR ROBERTS
CONFIRMATION HEARING POSTPONED
WASHINGTON,
DC - (09/06/2005) National Bar Association (NBA) President
Reginald M. Turner, Jr. testimony for the confirmation hearing
of Supreme Court nominee John Roberts, Jr., has been postponed
pursuant to Senate scheduling. Turner was originally scheduled
to testify on Friday.
Roberts
was selected by President Bush yesterday to replace Chief
Justice William H. Rehnquist, who passed away Saturday after
33 years on the nation’s highest court.
Roberts’
confirmation hearing was scheduled to begin on Tuesday,
but with the shift of the role from confirmation of associate
justice to confirmation of chief justice and in the wake
of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, the proceedings
will be briefly postponed. A new hearing date will be announced
later today.
Turner,
the 63rd NBA President, has extensive experience in labor
and employment law and governmental relations. He was one
of the lead counsels in the affirmative action case involving
the University of Michigan where he represented a coalition
of civil rights organizations known as Citizens for Affirmative
Action Preservation, and 17 African American and Latino
students.
