BIRMINGHAM ATTORNEY BEVERLY P. BAKER ELECTED INTO
THE COLLEGE OF LABOR AND EMPLOYMENT LAWYERS

BIRMINGHAM, AL – June 22, 2009 – Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C. (Ogletree Deakins), the nation’s third largest labor and employment law firm, is proud to announce that Beverly P. Baker, a shareholder in its Birmingham office, has been elected a Fellow of The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. Ms. Baker will be initiated into The College at a special induction dinner in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, November 7, 2009. Ogletree Deakins now has 24 Fellows in The College nationwide.

Ms. Baker, who was selected this year as one of the “Top Birmingham Women” by the Birmingham Business Journal, has served since October 2008 as Ogletree Deakins’ Chief Diversity Officer, overseeing all 35 of the firm’s offices nationwide in that capacity. She has practiced employment law counseling and litigation for more than 20 years, handling wrongful termination and promotion cases, discrimination claims, wage and hour disputes, and racial and sexual harassment claims. She also assists employers in developing policies and programs, and conducts on-site employee and management training on diversity and other employment issues affecting the workplace.

Ms. Baker has been certified by the Alabama State Bar Association as a Mediator and an Appellate Mediator. She also has served as a Commissioner on the American Bar Association’s (ABA’s) Commission on Opportunities for Minorities in the Profession and on the Council of the Litigation Section of the ABA. Ms. Baker is listed in the 2008 and 2009 editions of Best Lawyers in America, was inducted into the Alabama Law Foundation (limited to one percent of lawyers in Alabama), and recently was selected for membership in the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel.

Ms. Baker earned her B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of Alabama in 1982, and her law degree from Cumberland School of Law in 1985.
