The National Bar Association Mourns The Death Of Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones

Washington, DC - (August 20, 2008) - Today, the National Bar Association (NBA) and legal profession mourn the loss of The Honorable Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D-OH), United States Congresswoman from the state of Ohio. Congresswoman Tubbs Jones is the first African-American woman elected to the United States House of Representatives from the state of Ohio and the first African American woman to sit on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee. She was a life-long champion for justice, equality, and the social well being of all Americans. Before serving so valiantly in the U.S. Congress for five terms, Congresswoman Tubbs Jones was the first African American and the first female Cuyahoga County, Ohio prosecutor, the first African American woman to sit on the Common Pleas bench and a Municipal Court Judge in the City of Cleveland.
